Realizing the Worry
Was for Nothing

There is something we often hear from patients after surgery.

Dr. Minsu Kim Part 4

"Everything I worried about turned out to be needless worry."

It means the fear that grew in their minds while they hesitated turned out, in the face of the real experience, to be smaller than expected. Today, borrowing the story of a recent patient, I would like to write about what that worry really is.

Side Effects and Recovery: The Vague Fear

This patient’s biggest worry at first was, "What if there are side effects after surgery, or my recovery doesn’t go well?"

The longer someone has struggled with gynecomastia, the more they picture things that have not happened and keep putting off the decision.

But after actually having the surgery, he told us he realized those worries had been needless. When you know the facts and prepare properly, most of that vague fear turns out to have no substance.

Kind People, a Well-Kept Space

Asked what stood out about his first visit, he said "the staff were kind and the environment was excellent."

"The staff were kind and the environment was excellent"

A clean, well-kept space, and people who welcome you warmly. In care that involves a part of the body you feel self-conscious about exposing, these two things are what put the heart at ease first.

The Words That Eased the Tension

As his most memorable moment, he said "it helped that the doctor talked me through it before surgery so I wouldn’t be nervous."

"It helped that the doctor talked me through it before surgery so I wouldn’t be nervous"

Everyone gets nervous on the operating table. In that moment, a word of reassurance offered at your side matters as much as technique — because helping the patient finish surgery in a calm, comfortable state is part of our job.

"I Want to Build a Great Physique"

When we ask what patients want to do first after surgery, the answers carry wishes long deferred.

His answer: "I want to work out and build a great physique." For someone who has long shrunk into himself because of his chest, simply wearing gym clothes with confidence is a big change in itself.

Here is what he left for others carrying the same concern.

"Stop letting it stress you,
and get the surgery."

Putting down the stress you have carried and grown alone — Trueman Gangnam will take that first step with you.
