"Anesthesia Safety Was My Biggest Worry"
"Anesthesia Safety Was My Biggest Worry"
In the box for what worried them most before surgery, only "anesthesia safety" was written. It is a short answer, but it is a question I often get in the consultation room.
The anesthesia is handled separately by the anesthesiologist. The director performing the surgery enters the operating room after the anesthesia has taken effect. Before surgery, we check with blood tests and an electrocardiogram whether there is anything that could affect anesthesia, and we ask about medications being taken, previous experiences with anesthesia, and any allergies. Asking you to keep to the fasting time is for the same reason. During surgery we continuously monitor blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation, and after it ends we check the same items in the recovery room before deciding on discharge.
Afterward, in the box asking about memories from the surgery, they wrote: "I worried a lot, but I don't remember anything." It is normal to have no stretch to remember. We also explain the waking process in advance. Right after waking up you may feel groggy or have a scratchy throat, and this usually subsides within a few hours. We advise that you do not drive yourself that day and go home with a companion.
About their first visit, they wrote: "All the staff were men, so I felt at ease." These are people who have put off going to a clinic about their chest for years, so who is present at the examination matters more than you might think.
As what they wanted to do after surgery, they named wearing T-shirts without prints. This is a case of someone who had chosen clothes with large graphics to hide how their chest stood out. The compression garment is worn for the period we specify. It presses down so the area where tissue was removed does not lift and reduces swelling, so it is hard to leave out of recovery. The time to take it off is decided by looking at the swelling and the condition of the wound. After that, you can switch to whatever clothes you like.
To others with the same concern, they wrote briefly that they recommend it because their satisfaction is high. This is their experience; whether to have surgery is something to judge after confirming your own condition through an examination. Treatment differs depending on whether the tissue is fat or glandular, and there are cases that do not go as far as surgery after confirmation through examination and ultrasound. Some people find their decision settled just by asking and leaving. I hope they pick out T-shirts without prints and wear them out.
