A Summer Without Layering

Many people search the internet before deciding on surgery. In doing so, they end up reading things without a clear basis alongside everything else.

This person did too. That it comes back even after surgery; that people sometimes wake up mid-operation. Those stories worried them, they wrote.

We Look at the Condition, Not the Rumors

Recurrence is difficult to state categorically. The course changes with how far the glandular tissue was addressed, whether weight increased substantially after surgery, and whether a medication that can be a cause is still being taken. So in consultation, instead of promising no recurrence, we explain what we will do and how far, in this present condition.

Anesthesia is handled by the anesthesiologist, who monitors the patient's condition until the operation ends. The structure is that the surgeon concentrates on the surgery and anesthesiology on the anesthesia. This person wrote, "I was a bit worried, but nothing at all happened, which made the worry seem pointless." That was their case, and courses differ.

This was their first surgery, so they said they had no basis for comparing the atmosphere of a clinic — while still leaving the note that the staff were kind.

For Those Who Are Ticklish

There was an honest answer as well: "People who are very ticklish will have to put up with some discomfort."

To put it without hiding anything: what a patient feels during surgery varies widely. Some say they remember nothing at all; others, like this person, say a particular sensation was distracting. If anything is uncomfortable, do not endure it — say so right there. There is always someone in the operating room to hear it and adjust.

An answer like this, written plainly, helps us more than a review containing only what went well.

One T-Shirt in Summer

Asked what would change after surgery, this person wrote: "I'm really glad I don't have to layer anything under my shirt in midsummer anymore, and glad I don't have to walk around stooped."

Layering and a stooped posture are two habits often seen in people with gynecomastia. Do it long enough and you no longer notice it is a habit.

Finally, this person wrote briefly that they would recommend it to others with the same concern, and left the note that if we keep on as we are now there should be no problem. It is the impression of someone who has been through it, and whether surgery is needed is something to determine after confirming your condition at an examination. Being told, after checking, that it is not yet time is also not a bad result.

Summer is not over yet. I hope this year they get through it in a single T-shirt.
