I liked that his review said nothing special happened
When people hear the word "review," they usually picture a piece of writing full of exclamation marks.
The review I received this time was calm from beginning to end. In the box asking about his impression of the clinic, he wrote to the effect that it just felt like a clinic, and that there was nothing special about it. I liked that sentence. It means gynecomastia surgery passed not as some extraordinary event, but as one of the many treatments you receive at a clinic. Today I want to pass that calm review along as it is.
His first time under anesthesia
What he was worried about before surgery was the anesthesia. He had never been under anesthesia in his life.
After the operation, he wrote this. "It was my first time under anesthesia so I was worried, but it went fine."
Very often, the simple fact that something is a first becomes the fear itself. So before anesthesia we explain the process and the order of events in advance, and proceed while checking the patient's condition. Of course, responses to anesthesia and how things go afterwards differ from person to person, so confirming your own health status at the examination stage comes first.
A T-shirt, with no nipple patch
In the box asking what he most wanted to do after surgery, this is what was written.
"Wear a T-shirt without putting on a nipple patch. (In summer.)"
That one line holds what summer is like for men with gynecomastia. The time spent every morning remembering to put on a patch just to wear a single T-shirt; the long hesitation in front of thin clothing. A preparation ritual nobody outside ever sees, repeated season after season. I hope he meets this summer without it.
The weight of saying it was not bad
When I asked what he would like to say to men with the same concern, again there was no exaggeration.
"The recovery period is a bit uncomfortable, but having the surgery isn't bad."
Because it is a sentence that records the discomfort as it was, without inflating anything, I find it more believable for that. Discomfort during recovery exists for everyone to some degree, and daily life returns once that period has passed. This too was his own experience, and whether surgery is needed is something to decide after confirming your own condition through an examination.
