Let Me Introduce One Honest Review

When you say "surgery review," it seems it would be full of only good words, but the reviews I remember longest are, if anything, the plain ones.

The story I'll introduce today is like that. A record written by a man just as it was, without exaggeration.

"There was a little discomfort, but it was bearable"

Before surgery, this patient worried about whether daily life afterward would be difficult, and whether scarring would remain.

The sentence this patient wrote after finishing surgery was this: "There was a little discomfort, but it was bearable."

I think it's an accurate expression that doesn't dress up the recovery period as "no trouble at all." Discomfort during recovery exists for everyone, differing only in degree. Our job is to help that discomfort be managed at a "bearable" level.

The period of greatest discomfort is right after surgery. For 12 to 48 hours after surgery there is a risk of bleeding, so we add compression over the garment. Because the chest and abdomen are tightened twice over, it's admittedly uncomfortable. But when you come in the next day and we check for bleeding and remove the extra compression, it becomes much more comfortable, and from then on there's no great strain in working life.

As for scarring, not yet

About scarring too, this patient was honest. "As for the scar, I think I'll only know once I see the later result."

A fair point. A scar isn't something you can judge right after surgery. It gradually fades and settles over several months, and we confirm that course together at regular examinations. This patient's stance of not declaring now but watching is, in fact, the same as the explanation we give every patient.

A decision that began at the consultation

When I asked about his first impression of the clinic, this patient named the kind consultation. The more worries a person has, the more they need a consultation where they can bring out those worries one by one.

Back to normal, again

When I asked what he wanted to do after surgery, this patient's answer was modest. Once recovery is over, to exercise as usual, and to wear clothes without worry.

And he left the reflection that there's a big difference before and after surgery. Of course the degree of change differs with each person's condition.

When one can start exercising is also a frequent question. During recovery you should not do upper-body exercise. Instead, light walking or lower-body exercise like squats is fine. It doesn't mean don't move at all, so use your body again while keeping the order.

The time of watching over is part of the treatment

Surgery is a single day, but it takes time for the result to be completed. So that you don't spend that time anxious and alone, we confirm the course together to the end.

I think one must manage things more closely from right after surgery than before. So we do long-term follow-up and try to give the trust that whenever there's a problem, consulting resolves it.

I hope you'll come to ask before a question grows into a worry. It's not a problem you have any reason to face alone. I sincerely want to help.
