"Will the Shape Turn Out Well?"

There is a question we hear surprisingly often in gynecomastia consultations.

Dr. Minsu Kim Part 8

"I understand the surgery — but will the shape turn out well?" As much as pain or recovery, many patients worry about how the result will look. The chest, after all, is a part of the body you face in the mirror every day. Today, borrowing the story of a recent patient, I would like to speak honestly about that worry.

His Biggest Worry Was the Shape

The first worry that came to his mind was not pain — it was the result.

He told us his biggest fear was, "What if the shape doesn’t come out well?" But after seeing the result, he said, "Thankfully it turned out nicely — I’m satisfied."

"Thankfully it turned out nicely — I’m satisfied"

Gynecomastia surgery is not simply about removing tissue. The surgery is not complete until the chest has been refined so that a natural contour remains. That is why we care as much about ‘what shape is left behind’ as ‘how much is taken out.’

"Everything Moved Quickly — No Frustrating Waits"

When we asked how his first visit felt, he answered:

"Things moved quickly, so there was nothing frustrating about it."

Sitting and waiting anxiously after you have finally worked up the resolve to come in is a burden of its own. Keeping the flow from consultation to surgery seamless, so that once you have made your decision you can stay focused on it — that, too, is something we have built into our system.

"Nothing Uncomfortable Enough to Remember"

Asked whether any moment during surgery stood out, he answered, "Not really."

I take that matter-of-fact answer as a good sign. No memorable pain and no startling moments means the whole process unfolded calmly, well within what was expected.

Please Do Not Hesitate for Too Long

Asked what he would say to others with the same concern, he answered:

"Don’t spend a long time stressing over it alone. Get a consultation soon, get it done, and give yourself peace of mind."

Often, the time spent agonizing becomes a source of stress in itself. This is not to say you should rush the decision. Take all the time you need to learn the facts — just spend less of it carrying the worry alone and putting things off.
