"I Was Worried About the Shape, but I'm Satisfied"

This is the sentence written by someone who had gynecomastia surgery in July, in the box for what worried them most: "I was worried about the shape of my chest after surgery, but I'm satisfied."

Many people worry more about the shape after the surgery than about the surgery itself. They think that even if removing the tissue goes as planned, the shape is a separate matter.

How the Shape Settles

Gynecomastia surgery removes glandular tissue and fat. Because the skin stays as it is while the volume decreases, how the remaining skin settles has a large effect on the result. So at the surgical planning stage, we review together how much to remove and what to do about the skin that remains.

On top of that, the shape right after surgery is mixed with swelling and bruising. Only after the period when the two sides look different or one side looks more swollen has passed does the actual contour appear. This person wrote that they were satisfied with the result. How long it takes to settle differs from person to person depending on the amount of tissue, skin elasticity, bone structure, original body shape, and so on.

That Time Is Blank

In the box asking whether any moment during surgery stayed with them, they wrote that there was nothing in particular. About their first visit, they wrote: "The staff and the doctors were all kind."

The surgery is performed under sedation. Once the anesthesia begins, that time is entirely blank for the patient, and the operating surgeon enters the operating room after the anesthesia is complete. An answer that there is nothing to remember also means the day went as planned. The explanation before surgery is given in the consultation room, and the talk about the result is given in the recovery room.

Words That Sooner Is Better

To others with the same concern, this person wrote: "I think the sooner you do it, the better." This is the experience of someone who put it off for a long time; whether your condition requires surgery is something to judge after confirming your own condition through an examination.

In the box for requests, they wrote that there was nothing. When that box is empty, we read it as meaning that the day's schedule went smoothly.
