"Everyone Was Male, So I Wasn't Embarrassed"

Asked how it felt on first coming to the clinic, someone who had surgery in early July wrote: "Everyone was male, so I wasn't embarrassed, and it was really good."

For people looking into gynecomastia care, who they will run into matters as much as the care itself. All the more so because it is an examination where you have to lift your shirt and show your chest. If getting into the consultation room is uncomfortable, people sometimes leave without asking what they actually came to ask.

The Worry About Pain

The reason this person gave for putting off surgery was pain. "I worried whether it would hurt, but it didn't."

This person is among those who did not feel much pain. Even with the same surgery done the same way, the degree of pain varies from person to person. That is because the amount of glandular tissue to be removed, the extent of the excision, and individual sensitivity to pain differ. So in the consultation room, we do not tell people in advance that it will not hurt. We think it is right to explain that it may hurt and in what order we control that pain as much as possible. Of course, what I can promise is our commitment to always perform the surgery as gently and meticulously as possible.

The Answer That Nothing Stayed with Them

In the box asking whether any moment during surgery stayed with them, they wrote only that there was none.

This is the most common answer. The surgery is performed under sedation, so for the patient that time is entirely blank. The operating surgeon enters the operating room after the anesthesia is complete, so the explanation before surgery is given in the consultation room, and the talk about the result is given in the treatment room after the surgery is finished.

Not Having to Worry About Clothes

What this person wrote as the thing they wanted to do after surgery was to go about without worrying about clothes. Their message to others with the same concern was one line: "I recommend doing it." This is their experience; whether your condition requires surgery is something to judge after confirming your own condition through an examination. There are also cases where, after examination and tests, we advise that surgery is not needed.

Gynecomastia is often painless, so it does not show readily from the outside. Of course, some people do feel pain. That is why the standards for choosing clothes can linger for a long time. Choosing only dark colors, wearing one size up, putting on an extra layer underneath. Not having to mind those standards anymore was the change this person hoped for.
