I Just Wanted to Get Back to My Everyday Life

In consultations for gynecomastia surgery, the most common question is not about the surgical method. "When can I return to work?" "When can I start exercising again?" — the questions are about returning to everyday life.

The person I would like to introduce today was the same. Looking at the answers left on the post-surgery questionnaire, both the worries and the wishes pointed toward one thing: getting back to daily life.

The biggest worry was returning to daily life

What this patient worried about most before surgery was not pain, nor scarring, but "that the return to daily life might be delayed."

To give the answer first, for those doing desk work, many return within a few days after surgery. That said, because the degree of gynecomastia and the extent of liposuction differ from patient to patient, it is difficult to state uniformly when a certain activity becomes possible.

In my case, I usually offer this guidance. About one week after surgery, light aerobic exercise or lower-body exercise becomes possible. From the second week, the wounds beneath the skin have stabilized to some degree, so shoulder stretches can help release swelling; from the fourth week, light weight training becomes possible; and by around the sixth week, most patients recover nearly all of their pre-surgery exercise capacity.

When you know this schedule in advance, the recovery period becomes not a source of anxiety, but a plan.

The first impression: "the atmosphere was good"

When I asked about the clinic's first impression, the answer was a single line. That the atmosphere was good.

A brief answer from someone of few words is, I think, an assessment with nothing wasted. I read it to mean that everything passed comfortably, with nothing in particular to add.

What they wanted to do was also to return quickly to daily life

When I asked what they most wanted to do after surgery, they gave the same answer again. A quick return to daily life.

This is a person whose worry before surgery and wish after surgery were the same. Not some special event, but simply reclaiming a today just like yesterday — for many patients, the goal of gynecomastia surgery is this plain and unadorned.

The final words they left

As a message they wanted to pass on to those facing the same concern, they left a few words.

"Highly recommend."

That said, this is this person's own experience, and whether to undergo surgery is something to decide first by confirming your own condition through an examination.

The timing of returning to daily life differs from person to person, depending on the extent of surgery and the course of recovery. That is why we do not guide you through the surgery alone, but through the recovery schedule as well. When you begin knowing when each thing becomes possible, daily life returns sooner than you might expect.
