A Moment That Stayed With Him During Surgery

"Once I lay down, it was over
before I even knew it had started"

"I went to work the next day, and it was better than I feared"

For working professionals, the biggest reason to put off gynecomastia surgery is, surprisingly, not the pain. It is the practical worry: “How long will I have to take off work?”

Dr. Moon Chul, Part 5

The harder it is to be away from work for days at a time, the more that decision keeps getting pushed back. Today, borrowing the story of one working patient who came to us with exactly that concern, I would like to share a few words with those standing in the same place.

His biggest worry: 'Can I go straight back to work?'

What worried him most were side effects, and whether he could return to work right away after surgery.

But once he experienced it himself, he was back to full workdays the day after surgery, and told us it “was better than I feared — just something like muscle soreness.” The gap between the recovery period people vaguely imagine and the reality is bigger than you might think.

A kind, thorough explanation eased the tension

When we asked how he felt on his first visit to the clinic, he said, “everything felt unfamiliar, and I was nervous.”

But he went on: “The staff were so kind, and they explained every step of the surgery in detail, so the tension melted away and I stopped worrying.” Simply knowing in advance what will happen, and how, cuts fear in half.

"It was over before I knew it had started"

When we asked about the most memorable moment of the surgery, he answered, “I was so nervous beforehand that it would hurt, but once I lay down, it was over before I even knew it had started.”

The moment patients dread the most often turns out to be the one they remember the least. The more worried someone was, the more this part surprises them.

"I want to wear short sleeves and hit the gym"

When we asked what he most wanted to do after surgery, he said, “I want to wear a short-sleeve shirt without worrying about my chest, and work out at the gym.”

When we asked what he would say to others facing the same concern, he answered:

"It's best to do it as soon as you can.
I hope you can come without hesitating."

Every year you hesitate is another year of the same discomfort. Trueman Daegu will be with you for that first step.
