What We Hear Most Often After Surgery

“Why did I wait so long?
I should have done this even a day sooner.”

The Words “I Should Have Done It Sooner”

The longer someone has hesitated alone before coming to see us, the more those words carry both relief and regret. Today, borrowing the story of a patient who recently had surgery with us, I would like to share a few thoughts with those who are wrestling with the same concerns.

His Biggest Worry Was the Pain

Like many others, his biggest concerns at first were pain and possible complications.

He also felt the weight of it being a “once-in-a-lifetime surgery.” Yet on the day of the procedure, he barely felt any pain, and within a few days he was back to his daily work and even driving.

With gynecomastia surgery, the vague fear beforehand is often far greater than the actual experience. When you know exactly what to expect and prepare accordingly, recovery passes far more calmly than you might imagine.

It Was More Comfortable Among Men

The chest is not a part of the body anyone shows easily. Many patients tell us that even undressing for the first consultation feels daunting.

“I was worried because it's such a private area to expose, but the consultation was so relaxed and pressure-free that I actually felt at ease.”

This is exactly why Trueman Gangnam maintains an all-male staff — so that concerns that are hard to put into words can be shared comfortably.

A Few Words on the Operating Table

The moment your arms are secured for surgery, anyone would feel tense.

He felt that tension rise too, but said his mind settled as the surgeon and medical team offered reassuring words at his side. Surgery is not completed by technique alone. Helping the patient finish the procedure in a calm, comfortable state is part of our role as well.

“I Want to Stand Tall and Get Back to the Gym”

When we ask patients what they want to do first after surgery, the answers are rarely grand.

His answer was “walking with my shoulders back, and going to the gym.” Straightening the shoulders that had been hunched for so long, and reclaiming the everyday life he had put off — that small change is, in truth, the biggest change of all.

When asked if he had anything to say to others facing the same concerns, he answered:

“Do it as soon as you can.
I only wish I had done it earlier.”

For all the time spent hesitating, life after the decision feels that much lighter. Trueman Gangnam will be with you for that first step.
