"The Recovery Period Was Longer Than I Expected"
"The Recovery Period Was Longer Than I Expected"
Among the items that affect satisfaction after gynecomastia surgery is the length of recovery. For some people, how long this state will last stays with them more than how much it hurts.
What the person I am introducing today worried about most before surgery was also the recovery period. After surgery, they wrote this.
"The pain was not as strong as I expected, and the recovery period was longer than I expected."
To give the answer first, these two sentences do not contradict each other. It is just that the point when pain decreases and the point when recovery ends are different.
Pain is greatest in the first few days after surgery and then gradually decreases. Because it is not surgery that cuts muscle but surgery that excises glandular tissue and removes fat by liposuction, the character of the pain is closer to a muscle ache where the whole chest feels stiff.
Recovery is the process of the swelling going down and the tissue settling, so it takes longer. We expect about two weeks for the inner wounds to stabilize to some degree, four weeks until light weights become possible, and about six weeks to regain most of pre-surgery exercise capacity. It takes several more months for the shape to finally settle.
So when the pain goes away first, some people feel as if recovery is over too. However, recovery speed varies with the extent of excision, the extent of liposuction, and constitution, so it is hard to state it uniformly.

The biggest reason people feel the recovery period is long is usually the compression garment. It is stifling, and more so in summer.
The compression garment is not something you wear while waiting for recovery; it is a device that takes part in recovery. It presses the space created where tissue was removed and reduces the room for fluid to collect. If you take it off early during this time, a seroma may form or the shape may be disturbed, so it is better not to shorten the wearing period on your own.
As their first impression of the clinic, they wrote this.
"Everyone was kind, and I remember visiting on the day without an appointment, being examined, and going home."
Gynecomastia is an examination in which you take off your top and the chest has to be touched directly to check it. Quite a few people put off an examination for years because this process feels burdensome. The diagnosis itself is done by visual inspection and palpation, adding ultrasound if needed, and takes a few minutes. I believe the first thing is to reduce the factors that make people put off those few minutes.
What we check during recovery is not only time. In gynecomastia surgery, the items that actually need to be managed are bleeding and hematoma, seroma, and asymmetry between left and right. These are not items I can say will not happen just because they are not frequent.
So in my case, I check the course at set points and, if needed, treat it right then. One of the reasons the recovery period feels long is this checkup schedule, too. However, if you skip this period, there are cases where the shape has to be worked on again later.
For what would change after surgery, they wrote this.
"I think I will wear and choose clothes more comfortably."
When the volume at the front of the chest decreases, the silhouette of tops changes, so even the kind of clothes you pick up in a store changes. However, this too is a story for after the compression garment period has passed and the swelling has settled.
The stretch this person wrote felt long is the time in between.
