It Was Easier Than I Thought
"I thought about it for a long time, but it was easier than I thought, and I found myself wishing I'd done it sooner." That is the line this patient left at the end of his feedback. It is also what men who spent years deliberating say most often once the surgery is behind them.

Before deciding, what worried him most was pain. The longer someone deliberates, the longer he has usually spent building up an image of that pain. His answer after going through it was simple: "There was far less pain than I had worried about." Of course, I can't say this is a procedure with no pain at all. But there is often a wide gap between the pain built up in the mind and the pain the body actually experiences, and I frequently see how much lighter men feel the moment they measure that gap for themselves.

As a moment he remembered, he wrote that hearing the surgery had gone well put him at ease. I make a point of telling patients how it went, plainly, once the procedure is over. When you open your eyes, that one sentence is what you most want to hear.
