To Those Facing the Same Concern

"I recommend doing it even a day sooner."

For Those Worried About Scarring and Anesthesia

The reasons people hesitate until the very last moment before coming in for a gynecomastia consultation usually come down to two. One is the fear of being left with a scar; the other is the worry that anesthesia might affect the body for a long time.

Dr. Moon Chul, Part 12

These are, in truth, the most natural questions to ask. For a surgery you may only ever have once in your life, that degree of caution is only right. Today, borrowing the story of one patient who came to us with exactly those two worries, I would like to speak to those still hesitating in the same place.

"Scarring and anesthesia worried me most"

He, too, was most worried at first about scarring, and about whether the anesthesia might linger in his body.

But after the surgery, this is what he said: “It was far less of a burden than I thought.” The worry he had grown in his head turned out, once experienced, to be bigger than the reality. In gynecomastia surgery, fear of scarring and anesthesia grows mostly out of ‘not knowing.’ Once you know exactly how the incision is made and how recovery proceeds, that vague burden becomes much lighter.

Opening the door for the first time

When we asked how it felt to visit the clinic for the first time, he answered, “It was well organized, and the staff were kind.”

The moment you first open the door to an unfamiliar consultation room is awkward for everyone. Easing that awkwardness is the first step we care about most. If the consultation feels orderly and you feel at ease within it, half the journey has already begun.

The explanation in the recovery room

Asked whether any moment of the surgery stayed with him, he pointed to the scene in the recovery room, where the medical team explained things to him while he waited.

Surgery does not end on the operating table alone. Hearing that he felt reassured listening to that explanation — what to be careful about after waking, and how recovery should go — is the most welcome feedback we can receive.

"I want to straighten my shoulders and take care of my body"

When we ask what patients want to do first after surgery, the answers are rarely grand.

He said, “After working out, I find myself wanting to take proper care of my body.” The things he had put off because of the part of himself he kept hidden — now he is eager to try them. That small ambition is, in fact, the healthiest kind of change to begin with. Asked to leave a word for others facing the same concern, he answered:

"I recommend doing it even a day sooner."

The longer you have hesitated, the lighter the time after your decision feels. Neither scarring nor anesthesia is as fearsome as it seems once you understand it and prepare properly. Trueman Men's Clinic Daegu will take that step with you.
